Parippu curry
1.Toor Dal-3/4 cup
Wash the dal and pressure cook this for a whistle adding enough water (water should be an inch above the dal) and 1/4 tsp turmeric powder.
2.Mustard seeds-1 tsp
Cumin jeera-1/2 tsp
Onion-1 big
Shallots-4
Garlic-3-4 big
Ginger-1 small piece (optional)
Green chilies-3-4
Dry Red Chilli-2
Curry leaves-2 sprigs
Coconut oil-1 1/2 tbsp
Salt to taste
Chilli powder-11/2 tsp
Heat oil in a kadai and splutter the mustard seeds & then the jeera.Add broken red chilies and curry leaves.Then add the chopped shallots,onion,garlic,ginger and green chilies.
Once onions are glossy add the Chilli powder and sauté.Add some water (2 tbsps) so that the Chilli doesn’t burn.
Now add the cooked dal along with the water to this.Add salt to taste.Once this comes to boil and thickens,it’s ready.Parippu Curry is ready to serve with some hot rice or chappathis.
