Mixed Dal Kichadi for Lunch 🥗
It’s a one pot meal with soaked Dal & rice cooked just right.We had this first time when one of my hubby’s friend made this win bulk for Diwali.He usually makes this when he is fasting and it was easy to make and was a complete meal in it‘s own.Make it in homemade made ghee for kids
Dal Kichadi Recipe
1.(Split )Moong Dal-1/2 cup
Toor,Masoor & Channa Dal-1/2 cup
Wash & clean the Dals and soak it for 2-3 hours.
2.Basmati Rice-1 1/2 cup
Soak this for 1/2 an hour.
3.Ghee-1 tbsp
Oil-1 tbsp
Mustard seeds-1 tbsp
Cardamom-2-3
Cloves-3
Cinnamon-1/2” piece
Whole pepper-5-7
Cumin jeera-1 tsp
Dry Red Chilies -5
Green chilies-6-8
Curry leaves-3 sprigs
Heat ghee & oil and splutter the mustard seeds.Add the whole Masalas and sauté till nice aroma comes.Now add the jeera & splutter.Add the Dry Red Chillies and then the slit green chilies,curry leaves and sauté.
4.Onion-2
Ginger-1” piece
Garlic-5-7
Add the sliced onions and sauté.Once the onions are translucent add the crushed ginger and garlic and sauté.
Meanwhile drain the soaked rice and dal separately and reserve the water.
5.Turmeric Powder-3/4 tsp
Chilli powder-1 tsp
Tomato-2 medium
Juice of a Lime
Salt to taste
Now add the turmeric & Chilli powder and sauté at low heat.Add the chopped tomatoes and sauté for few minutes.Now add the soaked and drained rice to this and sauté for few minutes.Then Add the already soaked and drained dal to this.
Add 4 cups of water (kept aside)and juice of a lime to this and cover the pan with a lid.Once this comes to boil,reduce the heat to low and cook till the dal is cooked through .Now add salt to taste and mix in.Continue to cover and cook till the rice is cooked through and almost all the water is dried.Off the stove and let it remain covered for 15-20 minutes.Mixed Dal Kichadi is ready to Serve with some Pickles or Coconut Chutney.
