Chakkakuru Thoran
1.Chakkakuru-22-25 numbers
Remove the outer white cover of the seeds and soak it in water. Once soaked u can scrape off the brown cover if you don’t like it.Don’t scrape it fully since it’s very nutritious.After this u can slice the seeds into small pieces and then pressure cook this by adding 1/4 cup water and salt for a whistle.
Since it’s hard to chop it into small,
What I usually do is pressure cook these seeds as it is (without chopping) by adding 1/2 cup water for a whistle. Then once cooled discard the water and chop it into small pieces.
2.Coconut oil-2 tsp
Mustard seeds-1/2 tsp
Onion-1
Garlic-2-3
Curry leaves-a sprig
In a kadai heat oil and splutter the mustard seeds.Add all the above ingredients chopped and sauté till glossy.
3.Chilli powder-3/4 tsp
Coconut grated-1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Now add the Chilli powder on low heat and sauté.Add 2 tbsps of water & cook till oil separates.Add the coconut grated & chopped cooked Chakkakuru ,salt and 1 tbsp water ..Cover & cook for a minute on low heat.Remove lid & cook till all the water dries.Chakkakuru Thoran is ready.
