Kappalanga/Raw Papaya Thoran
1.Raw Papaya-1 Small
Just put some lashes on it and set aside for 10 minutes first so that it emits Kara.
Then remove the green outer cover and seeds inside and grate it. The grated Papaya should be about 2 1/2 cups.
2.Mustard seeds-1 tsp
Coconut oil-1 tbsp
Toor/Urad Dal -1 tsp
Whole Red chilies-3
Heat oil and splutter the mustard seeds. Then add the dal and sauté till light brown .Now Add the whole red chilies.
3.Onion-1 big
Garlic-3
Green chilies-4-6
Curry leaves-2 sprigs
And all the above ingredients chopped & sauté for few minutes .
4.Turmeric Powder-1/2 tsp
Grated coconut-3/4 -1cup(adjust to your taste)
Salt to taste
Add the turmeric powder and sauté .Now add the grated coconut ,Papaya & salt & mix in.Cover with a lid and cook on low heat until done.Open the lid and cook if there’s any water in it.Kappalanga/Papaya Thoran is ready.
Note:Usually it doesn’t require any extra water for this to cook.Make sure the heat is on low and it’s covered with lid.
