Kakka Irachi/Clams Fry















Clams Fry/Kakka Irachi Ularthu

1.Clams/Kakka Irachi-1 kg

Remove the inner black thing from the clams by pressing it.Wash and drain the clams.

2.Chilli powder-1 tbsp

Turmeric powder-1 tsp

Vinegar-1 tbsp

Salt to taste

Marinate all the above ingredients to the cleaned clams/Kakka Irachi.Add 1/2 cup water and Pressure cook this for 2 whistles .

3.Onion-2 big

Shallots-10

Ginger-1” piece

Garlic-1 pod

Curry leaves-2-3 sprigs

Coconut pieces-1/2 cup

Coconut oil-3 tbsps

Heat oil and fry the coconut pieces till it starts to brown.Add the curry leaves and fry.Add the chopped onions and shallots and sauté this till onions are translucent.Now add the crushed garlic & ginger and sauté.

4.Chilli powder-2 tsp

Pepper powder-2 tsp

Garammasala-1 tsp (optional)

Coconut oil as required

Add all the above ingredients except oil,once the raw smell of ginger and garlic vanishes.Add the water leftover in the cooker and sauté till oil separates.Now Add the cooked Clams /Kakka Irachi and cook on medium heat . If this starts to stick to the bottom,add some more coconut oil in between and fry till it’s browned .
