Idichakka Thoran
1.Small Raw Jackfruit/Idichakka(Cooked)-2 cups
Apply oil to your hands and knife before cutting the Jackfruit.Cut 1/4 th of a raw Jackfruit with a big knife.
Remove the outer green part and the middle round part and discard it.Put the remaining parts into water so that it doesn’t change color.Now Cut this into small chunks and put this into pressure cooker along with 1/2 tsp turmeric,salt and 1/2 cup water .Pressure cook this for a whistle.
Once cooled ,open the cooker and just mash it with your hands to small pieces/slices.
2.Coconut oil-2 tbsps
Mustard Seeds-1 tsp
Urad dal-1 tsp
Dry Red Chilies-3
Heat oil in a pan and splutter the mustard seeds .Add the Urad dal and fry till browned.Add the red chilies and sauté.
3.Curry leaves-2 sprigs
Shallots-4
Garlic-4-5 big
Green chilies-5-6
Cumin jeera-1/4 tsp (crushed)
Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
Whole pepper/Chilli powder -1/4 tsp
Onion-1 Small
Now add all the above ingredients chopped except cumin,turmeric and chili/pepper powder and sauté till glossy.Add the turmeric,cumin & Chilli powders and sauté.
4.Coconut grated-1 cup
Now add the leftover water in the cooker to this along with the coconut and sauté for a minute or two.
Add the smashed cooked Jackfruit to this and cover & cook on medium heat until coconut is cooked.Remove the lid and stir in.Adjust salt and cook till all the water dries up.Idichakka Thoran is ready.
