Fish Biryani (Serves 6-7 people)
For the marination
1.Fish -8-10 pieces
Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
Chilli powder-2 tsp
Pepper powder-1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Juice of 1/2 a Lemon
Marinate the fish with the above ingredients for atleast 2 hours.
Fry the fish and set aside.
For the Rice
1.basmati rice-2 cup
Soak the rice for 15 minutes & drain.
2.cardamom-4
Cinnamon-1" piece
Cloves-5
Pepper corns-5
Shajeera-1/2 tsp
Oil/ghee-1 tbsp
Heat oil and add all the above spices except jeera.when the pepper corns starts to splutter add the jeera & allow to splutter.then add the drained rice and fry for 2 minutes.In a pressure cooker add the fried rice,salt to taste and 3 cups of water and cook for a whistle.
For the gravy
1.onions-4
Tomatoes-1
Ginger garlic paste-1 tbsp
Green chillies-4-5
Corriander leaves-1/4 cup
Mint leaves-1/4 cup
Oil-3 tbsp
Slice the onions and fry half of this till brown & set aside .fry some cashews and set aside to decorate.
add the remaining onions & saute.when it starts to brown lightly add the ginger garlic and Chilli pastes and the chopped tomatoes and saute .
2.chilli powder-1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
Add the above masalas & fry
3.yoghurt-1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Lemon juice-1/2 lemon
Garamasala-1/2 tsp
Biryani masala-1/2 tsp
Add the yoghurt in medium heat and saute.Now add the chopped corriander & mint Leaves ,half of the fried onions and the fried fish and saute for a minute sothat the gravy coats the fish.Add the cooked rice and decorate with the remaining fried onions & cashews.Serve with raita ,

Note:For 13-14 people I used 4 1/2 cups (250 ml cups) of Jeerakashala rice and 20 fish pieces today for our weekend family get together and doubled the above recipe.The pictures are of today’s get together.
