Chicken Piralan
My mom used to make this with Beef as my dad & we kids loved beef and occasionally with Chicken . This was Dads favorite for lunch,breakfast and dinner.He used to have a second serving to eat the Piralan.Mom used to make this with Vendakka (lady's finger) too.The Piralan goes well with Rice,Paalappams and Chappathis .Here is my mom's famous Piralan recipe
Chicken Piralan
1.Chicken-1 1/4 kg
Clean and cut the chicken into small pieces
2.For masala paste
Shallots-4-5
Ginger-1" piece
Garlic-5 big
Green Chilli-4-5
Curry leaves-1 sprig
Fennel seeds-1 tsp
Pepper corns-1 tsp
Corriander seeds-3/4 tsp
Cardamom-4
Cloves-5-6
Cinnamon-1/2" piece
Chilli powder-1 tsp
Corriander powder-1 tsp
Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
Ground together to a smooth paste.
3.Onion-2 sliced
Curry leaves-2 sprigs
Coconut Oil-2 tbsps
Heat a kadai and saute onions and curry leaves in oil.Once onions are glossy,add the ground masala paste and some water and cook till oil separates.
4.Potatoes-2 big
Carrot-2 big
Salt to taste
Can replace with any vegetable like cauliflower,green peas etc:
Cut the vegetable into bite size pieces.
Add the chicken pieces and vegetables ,salt and 1/2 cup water (second milk of coconut extracted)and cover and cook till chicken is cooked.
5.Coconut milk extracted from half a coconut or
Coconut milk powder-3-4 tbsps dissolved in 1 cup of water
Vinegar-1 tbsp
Garamasala-1/2 tsp
Corriander leaves for garnishing
Add the vinegar,garamasala and thick milk of coconut to this and adjust salt.Stir continuously till the mixture is heated through (and not boiled) if you are adding fresh coconut milk.Add chopped Corriander leaves & serve with Appams ,Rice or Chappathis
