Beetroot Oats Puttu (Yields 3 Charatta Puttu)
1.Oats-1 cup
I used rolled oats.U can use instant oats too.
Dry roast this until heated through and not browned.Allow this to cool a bit.Ground this in a mixie .
2.Rice flour -1/2 cup
Beetroot -1 small (grated)
Salt to taste
Water as required
Add the rice powder and salt and mix in.Add the grated beetroot and mix in.Sprinkle water to this and mix with your hands so that you get a bread crumbs like mixture .Let this sit covered for 15-20 minutes.
Put a small amount of this mixture into the small jar of your mixie and pulse twice or if your mixie don’t have the pulse mode just grind for few seconds.Remove it to a bowl.Repeat till all the mixture is pulsed.
4.Coconut grated-as required
Pour water into the Puttu pot or pressure cooker. If you are using pressure cooker just remove the whistle and close it with the lid.
Put the round chillu to the puttu maker and put a tbsp of coconut grated in it.Then put the ground puttu mixture and again coconut grated and then puttu mixture and again top with coconut grated.Close the puttu maker with it’s lid and place it on top of the puttu pot or on top of the pressure cooker and steam for few minutes until nice aroma of cooked puttu emanates.
Healthy Beetroot Oats Puttu is ready to Serve. You don’t need any curry for this as it’s really tasty as it is.U can serve it with some bananas if you want.Today I served it with leftover Cherupayar Thoran and Pappadam
Note:
1.To make Beetroot Wheat puttu use only 1 1/2 cups of wheat flour dry roasted and 1/2 cup of rice flour and proceed.
2.U can make this Puttu using only the Oats flour. My family doesn’t like oats as such so I add some rice powder to make it.
