Idli Podi(Milagai Podi)

Homemade Idli Podi/Idli Milagaipodi

1.Whole Dry Red Chillies -10(Adjust according to your spice level)

In a pan,Dry Roast the chilies till crispy .Remove to a bowl/plate.

2.Urad dal-1/2 cup

Channa Dal-3 tbsps

Add both the dals and dry Roast till golden brown.Remove and set aside.

3.Curry leaves-1 Or 2 sprigs

Sesame seeds-1/2 tbsp

Asafoetida-1/4 tsp

Salt to taste

Now add the curry leaves to the pan and fry till lightly browned and remove.Now add the sesame seeds to the pan and fry till browned .Now add the asafoetida powder and stir in.Remove to the plate.

Once slightly cooled ,ground it by adding the salt to taste.

Note :If your Red Chillies aren’t spicy you can add a tsp of Chilli powder to the above mixture and then ground it.

You can store this in a glass container.


To make the Idli podi Chutney,take 1-2 tbsps of Idli podi into a bowl and add 1-2 tbsps of sesame/ coconut oil and stir in.Adjust the consistency as required.
