Cornmeal Puttu (yields 4 charatta puttu Or 2 big cylinderical puttu)
1.Yellow Cornmeal-1/2 cup
Rice powder-1/4 cup +1 tbsp
Salt to taste
Water/Coconut water as required
Mix all the above ingredients in a bowl.
Add water as required to make it look like crumbs.(When you take the crumbs in your hand and gently press it should come together.)Set this aside covered for 5-10 minutes.
Just pulse this mixture in the small jar of your mixie in 2-3 batches .Puttu mixture is ready.
2.Coconut grated-1/2 cup
Place the round disc(chillu as we call)of the puttu maker to the base and place some grated coconut over it.Fill with the above puttu mixture and top with grated coconut .Close this with the lid and steam it till done.
If you don’t have a puttu kudam u can fill 1 cup water in a pressure cooker and close it with it’s lid without placing the whistle of the cooker and heat it.Once steam comes from the top,place the puttu maker over it and steam till nice aroma of puttu comes out.(around 3-5 minutes).Cornmeal Puttu is ready to Serve with some Meen /Kadala/Meat curry or simply with some Pappadam or Pazham or Sugar .
